The Start — Your Loadout

Like the show Alone, you don't spawn with a full toolkit — you begin a new world with nothing but the clothes you're in, and you get to bring two items from an approved list, chosen against the biome you woke in. That single choice turns worldgen into a run: a tarp and a sleeping bag read very differently on a freezing coast than a felling axe and a bow do in temperate woods.

Waking in

The first time you enter a world, you're told where you are and what it will do to you:

You wake in snowy taiga with nothing but the clothes you're in. It's cold country — the nights are the enemy here: warmth and a fire that won't fail in the wet will decide whether you wake up. You may bring 2 items from home. [Choose your kit]

The biome line is a strategic read, not decoration — it changes with the land:

  • Cold country → nights are the enemy; warmth and reliable fire decide whether you wake up.
  • Hot & dry → water, not cold, is what kills; a way to boil what you find and food to cross the barrens matter most.
  • Warm country → cold won't trouble you, so fight for food — game and fish are there for whoever can reach them.
  • Temperate woodland → mild enough to rough it; press your edge — game, timber, and fire are all in reach.

Choosing your two items

Click [Choose your kit] (or run /alone loadout) to see the list with your biome and picks remaining. Click any option — or type /alone loadout pick <item> — to pack it. You get two picks, and they must be two different things, so each choice counts. Once your second pick locks in, your kit is read back to you and that's it — it's a one-time, per-world choice that survives death (you don't re-pick when you respawn).

The approved list — each is real gear whose mechanic already exists, and each is something genuinely hard or slow to come by otherwise, so the pick actually changes your opening:

PickWhat it gives you
Ferro rodLights a fire fast, even in the rain (see Fire)
Takedown bowBow + 16 arrows — ranged hunting from day one
Iron pot Iron potBoil water clean and cook, no clay needed
